Another Sussex – Exhibition at Worthing Museum

Figment Arts presents Another Sussex, a new exhibition exploring the folklore of Sussex. Featuring work by Figment Arts Studio artists alongside contributions from over 580 workshop participants, the exhibition draws on local legends including the Knucker Dragon of Lyminster, the Midsummer Oak, and Sussex’s spectral hounds.

Through painting, textiles, installation, animation and illustration, these stories have been reimagined into contemporary artworks. The exhibition includes large-scale collaborative pieces, individual artist works, audio and film, and an immersive installation, alongside a relaxed reading space with folklore books.

This year also marks the 20th anniversary of the saving of the Midsummer Oak, a Worthing landmark with a long-standing folklore tradition.

Another Sussex opens at Worthing Museum on Saturday 28 March and runs until 21 June, coinciding with the museum’s reopening after major refurbishment works. A Midsummer Open Event will take place on 18 June, 6–7:30pm, featuring singing, storytelling and celebration.

The exhibition includes work by Figment artists and guest artist Sarah Pain (Hagstone Project).
