David G Taylor, The Fourth Wall, The Vanishing of Evelyn Terrace

My name is David G Taylor and the title of the work is The Fourth Wall The Vanishing of Evelyn Terrace. You’re going to see, a dressing table from an old theatre. There’s going to be a mirror with lights around it, and in front of it there’s going to be a couple of white vanity cases full of belongings, things that have been left behind. There’s also going to be, a coat stand that’s got some dresses and things, scarves, handbags hung on. There’s going to be left behind shoes. There’s going to be a frame with some photographs, pictures of ghosts and other sort of ephemera. The plan is that they, rummage through the left behind belongings and all the memorabilia, and they find hidden notes, old posters, old scripts, letters, cards. And through these, they piece together the story of what happened to Evelyn Terrace, who mysteriously disappeared in the 1950s. Now, a few years later, a gray Lady ghost was spotted by one of the theatre managers. The Theatre Royal Brighton. Is that Evelyn Terrace’s ghost? Or is there some other explanation and the piece explores some of the possibilities. So it’s a little bit like being a detective. You’re rummaging through all these things, piecing together a story, deciding what you think might have happened and who the ghost might be. It’s it’s all very influenced too, by 1950s cinema, sort of sci fi, B-movies, monster movies, suspense, Hitchcock, that sort of thing. So all these things come into play.
