Chanctonbury Ring, an Iron Age hill fort in West Sussex, is famously associated with legends of summoning the Devil by running around its beech trees seven times anti-clockwise on a moonless night. Other myths include the Devil appearing with soup, seeing Julius Caesar, encountering a white-bearded Saxon, and various hauntings, often tying back to the site’s ancient pagan roots.
