Jake Parker

Jake Parker combines mixed-media artworks and storytelling including stained glass, digital technologies, props, and model making to spark discussion on subjects about community, health, and wellbeing.

A member of Figment Arts, he has exhibited at venues including Phoenix Art Space and Anita’s Room at Brighton Dome, often collaborating with other artists to raise awareness of hidden disabilities and societal topics.

How did you get into art?

I’ve always been a creative thinker, dipping into short art groups throughout my life — people close to me often joked that each September I’d sign up for a random new creative course, whether this be stained glass making or a last-minute film group. In 2016, I finally committed to a degree in prop making and theatre arts at Northbrook Metropolitan College in Goring-by-Sea. I loved the physical craft, but what I enjoyed most was collaborating with other skilled artists and creators.

Leaving college during a pandemic made it hard to keep momentum, but discovering Figment Arts via Disability Arts Online helped to change this — giving me support and new enthusiasm to keep developing alongside other artists and creative people.
