Collaborative painting – Black Dogs

The Black Dogs painting is a large painting. It’s around the size of two trestle tables, put end to end. It’s horizontal in landscape format and the scene that is depicted is a nighttime forest scene. The forest has many trees behind it. A blue purple sky, and to the left in the sky is a full moon rising over a hill on the hill and down below, in amongst the trees are many black dogs, terrifying looking, baring their teeth with their fur standing on end. Some are howling at the moon. The dogs aren’t the only thing in the picture. There are ghostly figures. There are eyes staring out from the trees. Some bats in the sky and a graveyard in the bottom left. There’s a striking dog in the bottom right hand corner of the picture. He’s looking over his shoulder, out of the frame. The moonlight is casting strong shadows across the path upon which he’s walking. Walking through this, this forest, I wonder what kind of sounds we might hear. But I thought it would be a silent forest. And then I realized, actually quite loud and very deep sound and howling. You can see a wolf howling, but they are black dogs. One’s a ghost. And the black dogs, they look fierce. Frightening. But I’d love to stroke them, but I don’t think I would. I think I know what happened if I did, It’s very ghosty, mysterious. And it’s got eyes and it’s black eyes, and then it’s got these horrible, crunchy teeth that you can have, the crunchy teeth that would kill you with an instant as sharp as hell and is in the forest. At first glance, though, it looks beautiful. The purple sky, the stars. And then you look closer and you see the eyes watching you from the woods, and you realize you were not alone in the woods. No, you’re not alone. It looks like in a horror movie. And Full Moon and the werewolf is also looks like there’s lots of creatures. Not just wolves, but beasts with legs of a bird. Wings of moths and a beak like a crow. Okay, A wandering ghost, hidden in plain sight. It would be Autumn weather or not quite. Oh, probably September, but it looks cold. It may not be cold. It’s because it’s at night time. And I like the very vivid purple and dark blue sky. It’s very otherworldly, eerie. But the trees are kind of textured and heavy, and the gravestone is big and rocky, and you can touch so almost and it’s textured. So it’s really old and the trees look really thick and woody.
